I laughed and I cried from laughing. Then I read it out loud to my fav person who doesn't like reading. And we laughed again together. ekdum mast! Same exact experience with previous post about moral high. š
Insightful points on morality and how living ethically is an experimental enterprise for young people: *Every show in India needs entertainment plus a moral arc to succeed*. Indian Idol almost tapped into the middle-class notion that everything must be achieved through competitive exams and hence the show itself has ācracking an interviewā format.
Very insightful. The Latent show stood for multiple things - breaking the monopoly that OTT seems to have on what is perceived as good content and more importantly, serving content built almost 'exclusively' to the Gen Z audience it was catering to. However, the oversight that a joke could mean different things to different audiences (the millennials and boomers in this case) is what eventually upended the boat. It begs an important question; is 'safe' content capable of attracting audiences? And if yes, can pack the punch to add to the pantheon of good creative expression?
āThis episode, in a way, was a power struggle between generations.ā
I agree!
Ranveer enjoys the power he has, and the people in power are very much aware of Ranveerās ambition to be āpowerfulā by being an influencer. They see it as an opportunity to connect to the younger audience, who will be giving votes soon. Now, that puts Ranveer in a precarious position, and authority did exercise its power to express its displeasure.
Iād like to point out that multiple such jokes were cracked throughout the show, some being extremely more offensive than the one facing the cancel culture. But none of previous caught the attention of the authority as they couldnāt care less about mere comedians. Cut to Ranveer being on the panelā¦
