Thanks for writing this essay -- felt like Gelucil for all the acidity caused by the ghiblification of social media.

Converting one's context-less selfie into Ghibli style might look cute but it does not add as much value as using a Ghibli-style feature image for an essay that spotlights the issue. Ultimately, it is about value creation and what the market perceives as being valuable.

Read it yesterday. Couldn't find it here though. Anyway, just like a loyal reader, dropping the first comment, loved the essay.

Art- the many little things people emotionally hold.

But isn’t it more than that?

Walking past a picture that makes one stop& look,… ask… an emotional thoughtful response… what was it? A visual art.

A song in a concert hall,.. an emotional feast to the ears,… makes people want to hear some songs often… why? The experience of art!

But radio blaring along a street didn’t change the song,… but reached it to the one walking in the hot afternoon with an umbrella in his/her hand on a dusty road, unable to afford a bus ride home- the common man as RK Narayan would put it! But it didn’t stop musicians or concerts,… but more people enjoyed poetry& melody…?

A camera in every phone changed idea of photography, but people save many little precious memories by themselves…? But great events still require the pros

Hopefully, visual art might reach many,… but hopefully awareness of art might grow… but the artist who enjoys the quite exploration of visual finery will always make great art. The point will remain who will appreciate the great amazing moments of beauty in stillness held on a canvas to relive the moment as if it were a delightful melodious poem to the eyes? A flower grows in nature but withers with time. A tree grows& river flows.. have you ever walked & stopped to smell the flowers? Have you ever wondered if you could stop in the moment& find in the stillness… as poets say …’ infinity in a grain of sand& eternity in an hour’… Have you heard the poet (oothukadu SShastry writes,.. sung by many incld MSSubbalakshmi) who wrote a melody often sung in southindian classical style “to be a lawn grass where the divine feet often walk& run that i may feel blessed by the one who treads- implying the path of goodness to be bestowed on the head to think that the grace would descend, even if one had great births, the humble grass was more fortunate- ‘ punithamaana paka kooti piravi thandaalum…. Pullai piravi tharaveendumae…. Oru kshanam unn padam padum … ‘ how can we not remember purandara daasas song-“ naana veshagalallu, nanaarupagalalli.. nalidu putti…” how many ways the life lives in diverse forms (celebrating diversity) yet isnt it all the profound rejoicing in different expressions … - the point is the philosophical aspect of art is a treasure. Artists& poets draw out the profound they perceive into a worthy expression that makes everyone smile. The machine may make stuff to entertain, but the real art will always find true patrons, trends may come& go, but philosophy that alludes to a greater aspect of living will be treasured… the market value is different from true emotional value. Markets or politics or competition rat race is machine work. If the those in fairness actually raises their own quality to uphold worthiness,… great art& artists will live& humanity may have more artists instead of wars! always worth putting it out there… does no harm& may make people seek better…use brains emotions wisely& as many wise ones would say… they just might find what a fantastic abilities a human has been given but most instead of knowing how to live from their inner self soar high in healthy ways, are using it like a bullock cart on dusty road! We have many with profound wisdom& art guiding humanity in our times… but many are running after populism& trends…. Well only time will tell! … the machine may make more faster& run more miles… but the earth goes on the same orbit, same speed, balancing itself around its star… only 4.5billion years… the art we see is but the work of mother earth… the profound home we as humanity live in!
